AVM, Stroke, and Coma

On July 28th, 2004, I was sitting in a church, when all of a sudden my left arm went limp. I was rushed to a local hospital, where they discovered later (while I was unconcouse) that I had a brain bleed(which caused me to have a stroke). I was transferred to St. Lukes Hospital in Houston, where at 6am in the morning, I underwent brain surgery to correct the problem. After the surgery, I was in a coma for 5 days. While in the coma I had all sorts of weird dreams (stories to follow). I finally awoke, and spent another week at St. Lkes before being transferred to TIRR, a rehabilitation hospital, where I spent te next 2 months recovering. After that, I did an outpatient TIRR program called Challenge till December 31st.

All of this  was caused by a malformation in a blood vessel. The technical name is an arteriovenous malformation. Click here to read more about AVM's.

Needless to say, this was all very life changing. Though the malformation was fixed, I lost use of my left arm. I also have spasisity in my left side, which causes me some trouble. But overall, I could have died, so I am very gratefull to still be around....

Coma Dreams

I was in a coma for 5-6 days after brain surgery.
